Tailbone Injury over 2 years ago

by dionnejl, Sep 04, 2007 02:29AM
May 5, 2005 (Age: 22) - I slipped on a stair and fell hard on my rear (I only remember the date because it was Cinco de Mayo).  I had a bruise, of course, but the sharp searing pain didn't start up until about a week later and then it was excruciating to go from sitting to standing and vice-versa.  I never went to the doctor because I didn't have insurance and my doctor friends told me there was nothing that could be done anyway.

The pain did eventually subside, but every now and then (and it seems to be happening a little more frequently lately... like twice a week) the pain starts up again for about an hour and I have to pretty much confine myself to sitting, laying, or standing (whichever I happened to be doing when the pain hits).

Is this a for-the-rest-of-my-life thing?  I've only just turned 25 and I'd hate to think I have to live with this unpredictable debilitating pain for the rest of my (hopefully) long years.  Is there anything I can do, any kind of excercise or stretch, to keep this from happening so frequently?  Is this even normal for tailbone injuries?

Thanks for your time.

Tailbone injuries do seem to take forever to heal. My sister is recovering from her accident (swinging with her daughter and the beam came down) and broke her tailbone. She has pain everyday, but was told after the pain leaves that it is possible to have "flare-ups". I'd try taking ibuprophen around the clock and ice to the area ( a frozen bag of peas works well in this area) while you have the flare-up. You could check with a dr now if you have insurance to be sure. Best wishes.

Be careful of taking so much ibuprophen. Make sure a doctor OK's that because it can cause some stomach upset and if you have certain medical conditions, they can become worse. So don't start popping pills at anyone's advice before you see your doctor. I am someone who cannot take ibuprophen so I want you to be careful.
