Tear in the MCL, need operation?

Tear in the MCL, need operation?

Hi,

Injured my knee 3 weeks ago during a sparring session, got a hard kick to the inside of my right knee while I had the foot planted and the knee twisted. It hasn't gotten any better during the 3 weeks so yesterday I got a MRI done.

And this is what the report says:

"Sequence;sagittal oblique and coronal T1W, T2W and STIR

The study reveals minimal joint effusion.

There is focal increase T2 singal lesion between anterior and posterior cruciate ligament, probably
minor tear of posterior meniscofemoral ligament.

Normal visualized medial and lateral meniscus.

There is increase soft tissue swelling and loss of normal fiber at proximal part of medial collateral
ligament, compatible with tear.

Intact ACL, PCL and lateral collateral ligament.

There is neither occult fracture nor bony contusion.

Impression; Medial collateral ligament injury at femoral attachment. Minimal joint effusion "

The same doctor that was there when I did my MRI said that I need to operate if I want to be able to continue training as usual....but, that it could be enough with a brace and rehab, but the success of that was much lower then an operation, and if I wait with the operation to long it wouldn't be as successful as if I did it now...

Then I went to another doctor at another hospital, also a orthopedic. Showed him the xrays and he said that it wasn't that bad, that it should be enough with a kneebrace and rehab. And that it didn't matter at all if I waited with an operation, it would be successful anytime!

I'm currently living in Thailand so I have my doubts with the education level of the doctors...and their experience with sport related injuries...and the fact that they say two different things!

I know this isn't a severe knee injure, but I have to be able to continue training and fighting, so the knee must be able to take some punishment. So...

* Is rehab and "self healing" a option in my case, can that weakening my knee and if so, can that result in future more serious injuries?

* If I wait with an operation will that lower the successes rate of an eventual operation in the future?
