Tibia Fracture Healing after IM Rod Implant

Tibia Fracture Healing after IM Rod Implant

Hi,

I had a bike accident on 26th Apr and fractured my both Right Tibia and Fibia ( some inches above Ankle) and surgery has been performed on the same day for the fractured leg and IM Rod has been implanted. Its been 50 days now. can you please let us know whether i can start bearing 50% weight on my leg and howlong it would take to fully cure so that i can bear full weight and walk normally?

I am 29 yrs old male and it was a closed fracture.

Thank you
Raj

Don't do anything without the surgeons OK but I would be doing some exercises to get your ankle moving.PT is key with this injury-surprisingly,the walking will come fast enough but your range of motion is something you need to work on.Take Care!

Hi there!

4-8 weeks is the normal time when one would required to immobile and non-weight bearing, after which the cast is removed and weight bearing and exercises started after evaluating the condition of the fracture. Weight bearing in particular would need to be started gradually and it is advised to consult your orthopedician for an evaluation, if it would be okay to begin exercises/ physiotherapy after which you may see a physiotherapist for the same.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
