Titanium rod in femur for more than 26 years

Does any one  know anybody who has had a titanium rod in their femur for more than 25 years?

When I was 17 years old I got hit by a car and it broke my femur in the middle into two pieces. I am 44 years old now and the rod is giving me all sorts of trouble.

It's hurt for about 25 out of the 26, but, lately it's starting to affect my hips, knees, and ankles. What happened is that  the head of the femur is overgrown and it rubs against my skin.

I just want to know the experiences of someone who had it in for a long time and then they took it out.

Doctors have different opinions.

God bless!

Hi, I was in a car accident in 1986 when I was 19 and broke my femur.  I have a rod from my hip to my knee and I am in constant pain.  I am now 44 and can hardly get around some days.  So like you, I am wondering if this is what I have to live with or can something be done!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If the symptoms increase and cause more complications you have to remove the foreign body. But as it is there since so many years, if symptoms can be neglected you can go for conservative treatment and escape surgery.
