Turf Toe

Turf Toe

My 14 year old daughter injured her foot, but not sure how. She played volleyball 2 days before the symtoms (symptoms) occured. I took her to the ER on July 6th and they said nothing broken but a sprain.  At that time she could not walk on it nor get in a down position for volleyball, and she was unable to bend her big toe.The pain on top was awful to the touch. She had to stick out her leg with the injured toe.We did wha they told us with cruthes and wrapping/buddy taping.I followed up with her Dr. on July 18th and at that time it was better and she was able to walk and bend her toe with out pain. We had a trainer look at the toe and when she pulled and pushed on the toe it popped and was better. This was at a volleyball camp that she was not allowed to play in b/c of this. On July 24th I  took her to an ortho specialist and he said turf toe like the trainer did, but last night while walking to bed it popped and the pain came. This a.m. it is swollen w/pain on the ball of the foot and tendon on top. It is painful to weight bare.  I asked the ortho if we needed and mri and he said if it was not better by 8/4 to come back.  Of course, he is out of the office until Mon. and only sees patients on Tues/Thurs.  I really believe that there is something with a tendon.  I really want some answers b/c her first year of hs volleyball tryouts are on 8/11 and her coach is worried.  Please advise on your opinion.  Thanks, becki
