Twisted ankle 1 year later

Ok so a year ago, while out walking I stepped in a hole and twisted my ankle. Had a lot of pain and it swelled immediatly. The next day I went to the ER and got it checked out, they did an x-ray and told me that it was sprained. Gave me crutches to use for a week and then told me to go back to normal. I used to crutches, wrapped it with an ace bandage after that for more support and figured it would take a bit to be back to totally normal. A couple of months later it was still giving me problems so went back to the ER again. This time the doc only looked at it from across the room, no exam at all, ordered x-rays and then I never saw him again. A nurse came in and gave me a prescription for pain pills and sent me on my way with no other info.

Here I am a year after I injured it, and I still have pain with it every day. It is swollen most of the time and sometimes more than others. When walking I get pain in the outside of my ankle that feels like someone is stabbing it. I don't have any insurance to be able to go and see an Ortho doctor, and after my experiences don't really see how another ER trip would do me any good. Has any one had this problem? Just want to know what could be wrong with it and how I can get back to normal and not have it be in pain anymore.

They are not bothered because you did not have a fracture, but you deserved proper advice for your ligament problem which is very difficult to cure.
Rest and immobilisation at that time would have done wonders, and now with chronic inflammation we would suggest you to visit an orthopaedician and go for proper examination and do the damage control so that you will not have any problems in the future with this ankle. Take care!
