Unknown Ankle/Leg injury

Well I've had pain in my lower leg, ankle and foot with numbness for about the past 7 months. It all started when I was in Air Force Basic training and was just getting off crutches for a hip injury. I was still limping around and walking duck footed like. Then one day out of no where I was walking around and I guess I stepped on my ankle wrong. Then I heard a "pop/crack" and my foot and ankle went numb. There was discoloration of the foot at the time, but no significant bruising from what I could tell. However I did have trouble walking, limited motion in my foot and a significant amount of pain. After about 3 or so weeks the numbness and pain died down, but never truly went away. I recently had an EMG to see if there was any sort of nerve damage and it came up negative. It's just been very frustrating and I cant seem to find an answer. Currently I still have pain and  numbness in my lower leg, inner and left side of ankle and my foot.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation or determine the cause of your symptoms. Possible causes that may need to be considered include fractures, non-union/ mal-union, dislocations, inflammations, degeneration, tendonitis, bursitis, fasciitis, growths/ masses, neuro-muscular/ vascular causes etc. I would suggest consulting an orthopedician for a detailed evaluation and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
