I've not had the Synvisc injections, but I have had the Euflexxa - pretty much the same thing, except Euflexxa is not made with any avian products - I'm allergic to feathers, so was unable to have the Synvisc.

For me, the injection (my doctor did all three injections as one large injection) itself was not really painful.  The worst part for me was when my doctor gave me a local anesthetic injection prior to the Euflexxa injection - but once the initial pain (still not too bad) of the anesthetic injection passed, I didn't really feel the Euflexxa injection - a little bit of pressure as the medication went in, but not pain.

I actually have had more side effects from a cortisone injection than I had from the Euflexxa.  My doctor explained to me the side effects could be increased pain for a few days, some swelling, possible itching.  I didn't experience any of those - however I also didn't experience any relief from the injection.

It is important to avoid strenuous activity for about 48 hours following the injection or you may experience a good bit more pain and/or swelling.  Avoid standing for long periods or doing a lot of walking and of course, no running, etc.

I've heard many people have gotten great relief from either the Synvisc or Euflexxa, but for me, it didn't help - perhaps because my knees are just sooooo bad.
