Why do my knees hurt?

I'm 16 and for the past year I've had knee issues. I work at a library and shelve books so there's a lot of crouching and knee sitting. Last year I had gotten a huge bruise on my knee cap that covered nearly my entire cap. My doctor said that it was fine and that I just needed to do more physical activity. I started dance and I feel like it's just aggravating my knees more. I just noticed today that I hve a small shiner on my right knee. It hurts when I walk up and down stairs as well as when I crouch to put a book away. I have stopped standing on my knees. I'm just worried that this will be with me my entire life as the last thing I want is screwed up knees.

Thank you for your response in advance :)

if you did not find any satisfactory answer yet, I suggest you to visit the orthopedic surgeon because in this case, the knee pain treatment is really important.
