Why does Doctor say I will be taken off the only pain medication I know that works.

Doctor has told me I will be taken off Percocet but I know I take only as prescribed and back still hurts too much if nt taken.  I have not taken Percocet for longr than 8 months.  My back I must live with but why does pain seem the only way Dr. can say Pain is nothing to successful operation which I believe has happened but I am only one an a half months post surgery with lots of pain whenI can't take medication.

Is it your ortho surgeon who is wanting to take you off the percocet?  If so, it's probably because they are probably legally only able to prescribe narcotics for pain control for a certain period of time following surgery that is showing to be a success.

For more long term pain control, you're more than likely going to need to see a PM (pain management doctor).  These are doctors who specialize in the long term management of pain - not just with narcotic meds, but with a wide range of different thereapies.
