Will Surgery Help Chondromalacia Patella????

I was diagnosed with chondromalacia patella about 4 months ago.  My dr. gave me 2 options - Synvisc injections or surgery.  I had the Synvisc injections with no relief about 6 weeks ago with no relief.  I've been doing p/t for about 6 months for this problem.  So now I'm contemplating surgery.  The procedure he would do is the replacement of the cartilage where he inserts a piece in my large bone and a metal piece taking the place of the cartilage behind the patella.   I'm really hoping I'm making the right decision by having this surgery.  Thoughts??????
