Wrist pain no one can explain and My doc is out of ideas

I am hoping and praying someone can give me some much needed advice. About a year ago I started to notice my wrist hurts when I flex it back or if I put pressure on it. (like doing push ups). I'm a pretty active guy and at first thought I had a sprain. After two MRI's three X-rays and blood work. All my ortho surgeon can tell me is that he is not sure what the pain is from. I have mild tendonitis but after a year in a brace and NSAID it should have gone away.
My symptoms are as follows: It only hurts bending my wrist back or trying to put presure on it. It is not swollen. THe pain is in my wrist and if you were to draw a line back from your first two fingers it would be right in line with it. If I push down in that area I can feel a tendon(?) and next toit the bone. The tendon is only slightly tender to the touch but id I oress on the bone its extremely painful. Its hard to describe but when I bend my wrist back it fels as if someone stuffed my wrist and I'm fighting to compress the material in there. Sometimes it also feels as if one of my wrist bones is rubbing against my arm bone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What you have could be something totally different, but sometimes I get an inexplicable sore wrist and nothing I did seemed to fix it. Until I noticed that after I did a certain stretch, the pain seemed greatly reduced the next day. It's still just a theory as it's only been a few times. But it's an easy stretch and worth a try.
Find something stable and vertacle that you can grab onto, like a pole, a post, or maybe even the end of a shelf or something. Stand right next to it and then turn so your back is to it. Starting with your arms at your sides, grab the object behind you and slide your hands up about to your waist or a little higher if you can. Keeping your feet near the object, and making sure you have a secure grip and will not fall, lean forward until your arms are fully p straight out behind you. Keeping your body more or less in a straight rigid line,(don't bend your knees or waist) you are now leaning forward diagonal to the floor. You can let your head drop forward and feel the stretch in your shoulders. You don't have to tense anything (except of course keep a secure grip on the object) just let the weight of your body hang there and stretch out your arms. Just doing this a few times for about 20 seconds each seemed to really help me.
Hope you all find something that works for you

I have a similar problem for almost 1.5 years now, i helped a friend out carry hundreds of 6 meter metal bars out of a huge container. everytime i carried the metal out i put it above my wrist so it putted lots of pressure on my wrist. a couple of days later the pain started and it still hurts to this day! everytime i bend or flex my hand the whole way it hurts, also if i try to put pressure on my bended arm it hurts EXTREMLY!!! i had plans to train in martial arts and wrestling but i had to throw all my plans to the garbage. i feel so helpless and crippled, i hate it i hate it i hate it. you know the worst part? the "friend" payd me 25$ to get the metal bars out of the container and i had to help him for over six hours while he walked around and did nothing! and that same person ended up talking about me behind me back. so i made myself crippled for 25$. i hate my life.

I have the same problem for 8 months now. Pain mainly during pushups/putting pressure on the palm area below first two two fingers. Tried ultrasound, magnetotherapy, acupuncture.. recently i had a consultation with physiotherapist - he recommended me to do push ups and put the stress right in the area, where it hurts the most and reportedly it should get better in 4 - 6 weeks.. Sounds a bit weird to me.. it has been a month since i practice that, and nothing really changes (at least it didnt get any worse..). Do you guys have any updates?

What the? Why did you have to do that? I feel like you could sue them.. Seriously, where do you work? What kind of weird, unsafe team building **** is that? In the job I just started, the class spent about an hour doing a manual handling course just making sure we could all lift something properly without hurting ourselves, using an empty cardboard box ha

I have a similar wrist pain. I had to participate in a company team building exercise where I had to break a wooden board in half with my open palm. I broke it after about 5-6 strikes. Ever since leaning, pushing, and twisting became painful. This has been on-going for almost a year. The work-comp doctors are at a loss and work has also became impatient with me.

I have this wrist pain too - have done for the last two years. I have just found this link which may help some people solve the problem - although there may be different causes for many of us. http://reembody.me/2013/10/05/sore-wrists-during-push-ups-lets-fix-that/

I'm 23 and have been suffering from this for almost 10 years. I have had countless x-rays and MRI's, I have had two bone scans (checking calcium deposits) as well as a CT scan, 2 arthroscopies and a neurectomy (cut nerve in the wrist) and the doctors have no clue what is going on. I have had ganglions removed and know I have cluster ganglions in my left wrist. About 4 years ago the pain spread to my right wrist. The pain comes and goes in varying degrees of severity. At its worst I can't even hold a piece of paper due to the pain. I have limited motion of both wrists and cannot put pressure on my hands (push up position). If I hit my hands into anything finger first it will set the pain off, if I move my wrists up and down too much it will set it off. Sometimes I don't even have to do anything to set it off, I just wake up and it's there. The pain can be both a throbbing pain as well as sharp, just depends on the day. Some days I don't have any pain at all, and may not for weeks, but then it comes back.
I have seen numerous orthopaedic surgeons as well as hand and wrist specialists. I have tried wrist braces, pain killers (including injections into the joint) and even acupuncture and none have worked.

i have this.

you might be having some problems further up your arm.

It's not easy, but i would look into Pec Minor, Pec Major, Scalene (all 3, especially anterior and posterior), and rotator cuff (all 4 muscles) trigger points and tight muscles. Find ways to release the trigger points - try googling "Release " or "<Muscle Name" Trigger Points" etc etc.

Also look into Upper Cross Syndrome. Rounded shoulders and a forward neck cause so many problems - it really helps to understand how to fix them. Even with the knowledge of how to fix them it took me months to really understand how to fix myself.

All of these things could be bugging nerves and muscles, and they create a kinetic chain of disfunction. By starting at the top and working down you'll be focusing on the primary problems, which are aggravating issues further down.

It is not a quick fix.

Tight muscles are really bad (due to shortened muscles and trigger points), and could be constantly pulling and weakening your muscles down the arm. Your wrist is directly connected to muscles in the forearm, so if you can start to undo the chain you'll start to reduce pain.

Pec Minor and Scalenes are tough to fix yourself, so try asking for some help if you can. The muscles are awkward and tough to find without a professional, and even then i went through a lot of professionals who did help me find them, but ultimately it came down to me to fix the problem.

Brian,

What you described is my exact issue. I have had it for a year and no luck in figuring it out. I also struggle with the limitations it puts on my yoga practice. Have you had any luck since this post (many eons ago)?

Thanks!

Ganglion cyst. Very common. VERY painful if they happen to press on a nerve. I got to the point where I couldn't move my wrist at all anymore.

What's weird about them is they do come and go so they can be hard to diagnose. And a lot of docs don't believe they can cause severe pain, but believe me, they can. It just depends on where they are. My sister has one on the back of her hand that doesn't bother her at all. But mine hurt so bad I couldn't live with it at all.

I'm having the same pain and just discovered these two possibilities.
Intersection Syndrome or De Quervain's tenosynovitis

All of you are describing symptoms consistent with a hook of hamate fracture. Doesn't show up on X-rays or MRI. Your ulnar nerve runs under the hook ending at the tips of your ring and pinky finger.

This operation was suggested to me in relieving my wrist and thumb pain from deQuervains disease. I was just diagnosed with it and waiting for consult with the surgeon. I sure hope it will help.

My name is Connor and i have every thing in common to pkarmy76 exept none of the comments said this but my wrist does something really weird. it will hurt for about 2 weeks then not hurt for about 2 weeks. sometimes it can be 1 month of nonstop pain when i bend it then not hurt for a month. i have gone to the doctor many times about it and they know nothing. they have x-rayed it. still no news. then i took an MRI and the doctor only saw one thing and it was that i have 2 small ganglionsist. ( i don't think i spelled that right close enough.) he doesnt think that thats what is causing my wrist pain. but what else could be causing it? i don't know. do you think the doctors are wrong and that is whats causing it? i also broke my wrist falling off a zipline like 5 or 6 years ago.

i started realizing the pain in my left wrist about 4 years ago or more and i am 14. i have realized that a wrist brace helps a little. you can buy the anywhere. i got mine at cvs and another at target and walmart. i am hoping and praying that this wrist situation will get better and that some one will reply back! Thanks!!!!

Yup exactly what's been going on with me for about 2 years. I'm a 22 y/o female and the above mentioned symptoms are occurring in both my wrists, exactly as described. it comes and goes in both wrists and varies in pain as well (depending on if I fell or got hi-fived too hard in which case it's excruciating for days). I'm pretty sure it's not a torn ligament (since it's in both wrists), and given my age I assume I don't have arthritis/gout/carpel tunnel. My bet is on calcium deposits, but I have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor next week, I will follow up.

I've been having the exact problem from a little over a year now. Im only 15 but i was in volleyball and basketball, i figured a sprain or something but it comes and it goes away and hurts when moving it back or forward or when putting pressure on it or lifting something with it. Sometimes when im trying to soothe it a bit i try to rub it out and my wrist moves and cracks? Im schedulued for a xray but i have very little faith in doctors.
I just wish someone could tel what the **** it is because i enjoy excersizing and i cant even do a push up or lift weight s because of this ! Savage aint even the worddddddd

The same thing here. The doc can't see a thing, and the 30 min long Mr. scan was no use at all. Now one the doc says, that the last solution is to drill to, 3 mm hols in my wright wrist, and to look around and see what is wong with a camera. But i'm fuc*ing terrified!
Any of you guy's have had any luck?

I have terrible wrist pain and my ortho says he can do an operation that cuts the tendon sheath to relieve the pressure. maybe some of you can look into that.

I have the exact same problem. I can't even do pushups. When I need to lean on my hands I do it with straight wrists. I'm 36 and really sick of it. I went to the doctors and did the tests, but even the specialists for such cases are clueless.

It just came this year, out of the blue. I'm a healthy, active guy and this is just super inconvenient. I want to do gymnastics or yoga like postures and can't do any of them, since my wrists hurt when I put pressure.

I now take pain killers, which really are a relief, but this can't be a long term solution.

Hello, I am a chiropractor and treat many people with wrist pain, both chronic and acute. I have had excellent results with adjustments of the wrist in conjunction with therapies that include ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation and acupuncture. So, my suggestion is to find a chiropractor in your area and consult them. Good luck....
