amputed

i had my hand slammed in door, and i lost some of my finger. at the time of accident, i had pain in my wrist and elbow and had never had pain there before the accident..while i was waiting on the rest of my finger to fall off. i put my wrist in thumb brace and got elbow brace from cvs. the doctor said she could not see anything on xray, she agreed to do 9months later. now it has been 2 years and the pain is still there. and i cannot use my left hand the finger was sowen on where the fingernail starts, but i lost inch of finger, so i have to use my forearm to lift.. now my doctor said i should have steriod shots.. i think she is wrong..she wants me to use the brace 4 ever..the shots will not cure the pain that is only when i use it..i am write handed and my work after 2years wants a note i cant use and hand when they were told...my doctor said if i couldnt do job they should get someone who could...but i have been with company for 3years...what is wrong with my wrist...and she should write me a note saying it is not useable...she just wants my money for shot that is no cure...addvise

Hello!

You would need an MRI and an orthopedician for follow up. It is couple of years after the finger amputation so proper diagnosis is required.

If there was some tendon/nerve involved then it may affect the wrist. There are also phantom pains due to irritation of the nerve endings at the amputed end.

Take a second opinion and proceed for the treatment.

Take care!
