arthrogram with shellfish allergy?

The comp doctor has recommended i have a arthrogram of my shoulder for ongoing pain since an injury 3 1/2 months ago. his report states that if the Arthrogram is negative for a tear then the sprain is resolved. My problem is that i have a shellfish allergy (it triggers an asthma attack) is it safe to have this procedure? Also how painful is it?

Thanks, I am more concerned about the ride home, about 1 1/2 hours with no hospitals in between, shellfish didn't bother me when I first ate it, it was about an hour later. Also do you know if contrast contains preservative? Over the last 6 months something has caused my lips and tongue to swell (just mildly) and my throat to itch, my pcp said it's likely a preservative.

Hello!

He can go ahead but now least he will keep all emergencies at hand.
He will be keeping some steroid and anti histamine shots to reduce your symptoms of allergy if they occur as an emergency.

I told the doc about my allergy. Comp still wants the arthrogram done.

Hello!

Always get yourself tested for the sensitivity of the dye and then proceed. They can use in minute dilute portions to illicit an allergy before injecting the dye only if you are safe with it.

Explain your radiologist about your asthma and allergies!
