broken ankle not healing

I broke my ankle in late Oct. and it has not completely healed. I am on thyroid medication and was wondering if the incorrect doseage could affect the healing. My bone density is ok. I am 66 years old. It has been suggested that if hasn't healed by the end of this month it could require surgery, which I really don't understand how that would help. Thanks, Nonie
