broken clavicle, advice?

labor day of 2007 i was on my friends inflatable water slide in her backyard and i went down headfirst and her mother who was a little heavy went down before me and popped a hole in the end pool that catches you and i didnt realize so there was no air in the ending and i went flying out the end and landed full weight on my left shoulder. i went to the er and they said i broke my clavicle put me in a sling and sent me on my way. i had repeatedly woken up during the night with my arm above my head from slipping out of the sling and screaming in pain. i was in a sling for about 6 weeks and my pain never went away. i started having more problems so last year i was sent to physical therapy. im STILL having problems with horrible pain and i dont have full mobility. ive heard of "malunion" fractures and i was curious if this break could be warranted to do surgery on to realign it since im having so many problems..

Hello!

I can see your X-ray but an X-ray on the present day would give you the best diagnosis.

Clavicle fractures heal by themselves and you just need a sling bandage or a figure of 8 bandages.

There are some instances of gross displacement of the fracture ends where there is malunion/non union where an open reduction and internal fixation might be required.

Discuss the case further of the X-ray with an orthopedician.

Take care!
