bunion surgery

I had a bunionectomy on both of my feet in December and the doctor told me that everything went fine.  Well, there is now a bone sticking out on the bottom right below the toe next to my big toe on both feet.  I can't walk barefoot or wear any kind of shoe without being in bad pain, and the big toe on my left foot now crosses over the top of the toe next to it.  The doctor is telling me that the bunion caused my foot to lay more flat and now after the surgery, the other problems start to appear and I would require more surgery.  I never had this large bone sticking out before the surgery.  Is his explanation true?
