calf pain

calf pain

I have been having right lower leg and calf discomfort with swelling for 3 weeks. I have had 2 negative doppler studies to rule out dvt the last being 1 1/2 weeks ago. One doctor told me I have varicose veins so I have been using thigh high compression stockings daily and taking Motrin and an Aspirin daily for 2 weeks. I still have the pain and swelling. The pain worsens at rest at night. My leg aches and tightens after I sit down in the evenings. It does not hurt when I walk or when I am at work.
I am not an overly active person but I was wondering if this could be related to a muscle or tendon strain. It hurts mostly on the outer part of my right leg but this week has started aching in the deep calf portion when I press on it. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. My right calf is still bigger than my left also. I am scheduled for an MRI tomorrow.

Hello!

If you have calf pain on one side of your leg it may be due to injury or muscle pull, so it is always good to get yourself examined by an orthopedician and follow up for an MRI.

Varicose veins are twisted; enlarged veins near the surface of the skin. Varicose veins can cause aching, swelling and painful legs. In rare cases, they can also cause complications, such as skin discoloration and leg ulcers. They most commonly develop in the legs and ankles.

It is good that you ruled out DVT. I would also suggest you to rule out any peripheral artery disease and injuries.

Take care!
