cracked rib? or something else?

Let me start off by saying that I'm not sure I ever broke my rib. But this is how I can imagine a broken rib would feel, after reading about it. Anyway.

In 2006 or 2007, I got a really bad cough that stayed with me for weeks. Well, it got so bad and I was coughing so hard, that one day, I felt something move (I thought snap) in my rib area, right under my left breast, and it was accompanied by a sharp pain. After that point, it hurt to cough, in that once small spot. And it hurt realllly bad. Once my cough went away, the rib area still hurt sometimes but it eventually stopped hurting consistently. But now, years later, every now and then when I bend over or something, I'll feel a sharp pain in that same spot. I believed that it was a cracked rib for the longest time, but it has not seemed to have stopped hurting completely, like I've read that a cracked rib does.

Does this sound like something cracked ribs do? Or does this sound like a completely different problem?
