does the swelling ever end?

does the swelling ever end?

I'm not a newcomer to broken bones,in fact, I'm the Queen of broken bones. lol
However...this is the first time that I have had this amount of bruising and swelling.
I sat in the emergency room for 9 hours 4 days ago to make sure that it was only my small toe that was fractured and nothing else. The xrays determined that it was just the small toe,and that it had been broken previously...it also showed that the toe had fused together at the joints many years ago.
I'm just wondering how long the swelling/bruising/tingling/numbness/coldness/burning is going to last???
Right now it hurts like the dickens and the toe is actually hot compared to the other toes and foot.
I have a 3 month old baby and it makes it very difficult as I can't put any pressure on that foot at all.I can't even put pressure on the heel.
Tylenol and Advil are NOT working.Ice packs are NOT making the swelling go down.Heat makes it throb...blah blah blah...lol
The doctor in emergency said that my foot would be purple by the next day,but instead the whole foot is red and blue and very shiny due to the tightness of the skin. The little toe is looks like it has only a varicose vein travelling across it.
The bottom of the foot is red,and if I touch it,it will turn yellow underneath and stay like that for a minute before returning to red.
I'm supposed to wear a brace on that leg...have had it most of my walking life...(bad ankles)but of course there is no shoe big enough to match this swelling. My other leg and hip are taking all of the pressure which puts my spine out...you get the picture.
The emerg doc told me to go home that night and buddy wrap it. All that seems to do is to pull the toe next to it over to the side. The small toe was sticking straight out to the side when it broke. They did nothing for me at the hospital so I had to set it myself...no pain killers...OUCH!! According to the xrays,I did not too bad of a job setting it! Yay me! lol
I have tried to buddy wrap it to all of the toes but it just makes the tingling worse. I have read on-line that if there is tingling/numbness etc that I should see a doctor, but it doesn't say why.I know there is nothing they can do for a broken toe anyway...so why go back?
Any ideas?
Thanx
