fell, 6 months of pain and counting

I'm 17-years-old and I've been hurting for over six months because of one fall I had while playing basketball. I landed on my index finger, damaged the joint (proximal interphalangeal joint). Pretty darn painful, but what the hey. First few days it looked like minced meat. Mum refused to even take a look. Didn't splint or bandage it or anything. Then after a while the swelling subsides, colour dissipates, but pain remains. I went to my doctor and the quack takes a five-second glance, tells me to outstretch then retract my hands and says I'm fine, give it time, take it easy. I'VE BEEN TAKING IT EASY FOR OVER HALF A YEAR, DADGUNNIT. I would have made a bigger fuss about it if it weren't for a growth in my sack (guy gave it the same sort of half-arsed view), which both he and I correctly viewed as a bigger priority.

Today, the finger can function perfectly normal, but I do get spasms of pain sometimes when I bend and lift it above the knuckle. It's annoying as heck, and I fear I can't do things like boxing or any sport because of it. Oh, and it looks different than all the other fingers. When I point the finger straight forward, instead of flatness there's a bulge at the joint, like swelling, even when I arch it backward. when I fold the finger, instead of being flat at the tip of the joint, it's smooth and round, peaks at the right, almost as if it was normal but now sunken at the other side. That part freaks me out most, I fear there may be permament bone damage.

Did it heal improperly or something? I'll try and visit my doctor about it within the month, but I just want extra opinions because that's also really important.
