foot injury question?

foot injury question?

hoping someone can give advice about a foot injury . 11 days ago I was sitting with my leg curled under me and realized my foot had gone to sleep. I got up to " walk it off" and the leg was so asleep my foot dropped as i stood and put my weight down on the top of my toes and rolled my foot backwards. falling forwards to my knees i felt a pop in my foot and intense pain. iispent the rest of the day with it elevated and iced and intended to check in with the doctor the next day . No real bruising but some swelling was present. the next morning the foot was slightly less painful and I was able to put a slight amount of weight on it, so assumed as it was improved somewhat it was not serious  and spent another day resting it. I work as a waitress/ bartender so spend at least 6 hrs a day on my feet and had to return back to work on the second day after the injury. Since then I am able to put weight on the foot but have a pronounced limp due to pain when walking which gets worse as the day goes on. Any ideas what injury I may have incurred here and what I can do to help it heal and eleviate the pain while working?

Hi there!

Well, without an evaluation it would be difficult to say if there has been an injury or the severity of it. Going by the sequence of events and the symptoms this is likely to be a ligament sprain, though I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician or an orthopedician to rule out serious injuries. Meanwhile I would suggest resting the foot and avoid weight bearing a far as possible. You could use a crepe bandage for the same. Foot elevation and ice packs may help reduce the swelling. OTC NSAIDS may be used for pain relief.
