fractured scaphoid

fractured scaphoid

I have a badly broken scaphoid I broke it 5 yrs ago playing hockey, I had a cast for about 14 weeks and it healed about half y and I was told thats as good as it will ever heal. Last December I fell on it skiing and it was in unberrible pain. In july I had a bone graft with screw fixation. My wrist is still not healed and I am still in a cast.

I am wondering how its going to feel when I get it out? If it will feel better than before the surgery or worse? If it feels the same then I may just end it there and live with it. Do you think it will feel worse with the screw in there?

Hello!

You have these internal fixations to fix the displaced bones and a graft is used so that your body will take it faster to heal.

The healing depends from person to person, age and the skill of the operating surgeon.

If all parameters are good in your case and there is no infection the fracture will heal and your hand will be as functional as before.

You would need exercises and therapy to strengthen your hand  after the healing and I would suggest you to regularly follow up with your orthopedician.

Take care!
