ganglion cysta

Hi. I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist removed in January of 09. I had had it for about 7 years with no issues until about 6 months ago. It grew to the size of a walnut and did not go back down. My surgeon suggested having it cut out do to pain and my line of work...which is retail. He did inform me that 1 in 10 come back. Now......a little over 2 months later.....I have another one....same place and the size of a walnut. Very painful. Just popped up one night which hurt immediately. What causes this and what can I do, short of having it cut AGAIN,,,,which was not fun.

there is no known cause of these type of cysts..one possible reason it may of reoccured is if the "stalk" kind of like the root was not completley excised...also they do tend to reoccur just randomly..The only known treatment is surgical removal of...do it sooner rather than later as you know its just gonna grow,,in theory a smaller one should be less trauma to remove than larger....my husband had one on his hand he agreed with you that its very painful,,,Consider your options perhaps a consult with another different surgeon may help you.Best wishes...Cherie762
