ganglion

I'm scheduled to have a ganglion removed from the back of wrist soon, but recently i accidentally smashed it and it moved about an inch from where it previously was and it is more painful now. Is this something I should have checked out before my date to have it removed?

Hi...I have had a huge Ganglion on the back of my right wrist for over 2 years. It comes and goes in size and is in a medium size at the moment. the problem I have is that as of yesterday, my right index finger keeps getting shooting pains at the base (where I would wear a ring) and its very sore. I am in the UK and the chances of being able to get my ganglion removed are slim and my doctor said it was a risky operation. Has anyone else had this finger pain and does anyone else think it might not be related to the cyst? I would be interested to hear your thoughts. Take care Ravanna and all.

Hi Ravanna, how are you? It is better to seek the orthopedic doctor or your attending physician advice. Are you seeing wrist swelling apart from the ganglion? There might have been inflammation causing the pain and possible wrist movement restriction. Apply heat and take over counter pain tablets. Ganglion needs to be removed surgically. You may need an early removal of the ganglion, hence consult the doctor for his opinion and plan of care. Keep sharing your thoughts and take care.

That happened to me once! I had a huge ganglion on my wrist a couple of months after I had my cast taken off. I smashed mine and it grew back even bigger. I was scheduled to have mine removed but in the months waiting for the surgery it went away on its own. Its been two years and it hasn't grown back.
