gluteal tear

by misha925, Nov 06, 2009 01:32PM
Two weeks ago, I fell down a flight of stairs.  The initial impact was on my right gluteal muscle, followed by several more hits on the same spot as I bounced on each step.  I have had an indentation about one inch deep and three inches long on the right gluteal with severe, excruciating pain (and I generally have a high pain tolerance). X-rays showed no break in the bone.  How do I know if it is a gluteal muscle tear, or possibly a nerve injury?

Hello!,

You can know by the inflammation at the site of the injury and you can test the movement of the muscle involved which would be painful.

The best way to know about soft tissue injuries is MRI.

Follow up with an orthopedician for a proper course of treatment after the diagnosis.

Till then apply ice packs and also take some anti inflammatory drugs.

Take care!
