healing broken leg

healing broken leg

i broke my leg on november 5th
it wasnt an open break and there was barely any displacement and only about a 7 or 8 degree bend
i didnt have surgery, the bone right now isnt snapped and is attached for atleast 50 percent except seperated a tiny bit. i was wondering how long it should b until i get my cast off
most people said 2-4 more weeks
and what i can do to get the leg more straight (less degree of bend)
and also what i can do or eat to heal faster

Hi,
How are you? You did not mention whether you had a both bone fracture of  the lower leg or only tibia or fibula fracture. A cast is appropriate for tibial shaft fractures that are not badly displaced and are well aligned. Patients need to be in a cast that goes above the knee and below the ankle (a long leg cast). The advantage of casting is that these fractures tend to heal well and casting avoids the potential risks of surgery such as infection.

Most non-displaced fractures of the tibial plateau can be treated without surgery, but they usually require an extended period (about 3 months) of protection from walking. It is important that regular check ups should be done, to see whether the alignment is maintained or not. I would suggest that immobilization should be continued and with calcium supplementation which can help in early healing.
