hip replacement vs tattoos

by bickyb, Jul 03, 2007 06:26PM
I am 25 yrs old and had a total hip replacement a little over a year ago.  I know the risks of infection are higher in my hip now, however I was going to get a tattoo to cover up some of my scars since I had 10 leg surgeries over the last decade.  My doctor told me I could never get a tattoo since the risk if infection in the hip is high, however he is a very religious man and where I live a lot of times religion seems to have an influence on everything. I am healthy otherwise and have never had a problem before with infection with tattoos so I just want a second oppinion on what the protocall is on this type of thing. I am hoping you can give me some information on this.

When my mother died in the mid 80s i had a 4 inch rosel leaveed and stem. I had nopoblems. Now 20 years later I lost my only child. I would like a tat in celebration of my love for her and in honor of her too short life. I;e nad bi-lateral hip replacements. One last Sept and one in February. No infection problems. I do not want to risk an infection  and removal of one or both. I also have COPD and am not a good anesthesia candidate. Took 4 days to wake me once. Did with narcan. Horrible! I am looking for professioal opiniona. Please no bigots are morals police. Thanks

You can go for the tattoo and for not taking a risk you can be on some antibiotic for few days after the tattoo and this will ensure absolutely zero risk for you. You can have a mild antibiotic like amoxycillin, doxycycline etc. Take a prescription from your doc, take care!
