i) Cubital Tunnel decompression - what form of anaesthesia is used? ii) Splints

BS"D

Good day,
I was hoping someone could possibly help with their experience of Cubital Tunnel Decompression. I'd an injury over a year ago, recently had neurophysiology tests and now have the option of surgery which, God willing, may help regain some function in my fingers. I'm just a litle unsure of the anaesthesia.

i) What anaesthesia is used for Cubital Tunnel Decompression?

Though I understand the various procedures, I'm not sure if the surgeon is doing a simple decompression, a transposition or partial epicondylectomy (chipping away at some of the humerus at the medial epicondyle) as there is no imaging to determine the pathology of the injury.

I've decided that surgery is the best option as it is estimated due to the dimension of the injury the axonal regeneration will take in the region of 720 days on their own but only if there is no further compression. Though I'm making every effort to not further compress and injure the nerve I'm waking up in the morning with the medial 1.5 digits very numb.

If it's brachial plexus block, is it Ketalar / Ketamine they use?
If a general anaesthetic is used (e.g if it's partial epicondylectomy) is it Pethidine?

My mother had problems with Pethidine and apparently they were lucky to recover her. She mentioned 'allergy' and had an SOS talisman with "Pethidine allergy" noted in it. I'm not sure if "allergy" was self DXed or if, in actual fact, there was a problem with administration of it but she's not around to ask.  I'm suspecting it wasn't allergy as she had I.V. morphine and dimorphine over the lattter course of her palliative care in the hospice.

I'm guessing just in case it's general I should make sure affairs are in order.

ii) Where might I find a suitable splint online or material to craft a splint?

Many Thanks

Appendix
The letter  from the surgeon reads:
I have now had an assessment from the neurophysiologist about your ulnar nerve. He feels that the slowdown is at the elbow and if your symptoms are bad enough then I would decompress the ulnar nerve at the left elbow. Please let my secretary know if you want me to go ahead and I will make the necessary arrangements. I have written to your doctor to let him know what is going on.

Yours Sincerely

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
