knee swelling

After arthroscopic surgery 8 months ago, I developed a swollen area under my right knee slightly to the left from my vantage pt.It is sore and is still swollen. 2" x1 1/2" What is this sack and will it ever leave? I also have a Baker's cyst in back of my knee which is under control.
Thanks

Hi there!

Well, without an evaluation it would be difficult to tell; though if the swelling is soft and has remained for 8 months without any associated symptoms, it is likely to be a cyst, which may or may not resolve by itself. I would suggest getting this evaluated by your orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and if an intervention would be required, so that it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
