left fibula fracture

Hello,

i fractured my left fibula (about 2 inches above my ankle, spiral fracture) exactly a month back. i was in a fiberglass cast till yesterday. now i am in a walking boot. i cannot put weight on my left leg for 2 more weeks. my doc said in 2 weeks he will allow me to put some weight. how long does it take to heal this kind of fracture? and how long before i can start walking without any support (brace, boot, crutches etc)? i need some answers, im getting fed up. i do all my activities as usual. go to work, take shower, cook, drive my car etc. i just don't put any weight on my left leg. please help me.

thanks

Get used to it.  This is a major injury so it is going to take some time to heal.  Even in two weeks when the doctor allows you to start putting some weight on it,  its not going to be very much weight and after the first time you do it, youre not going to want to put weight on it anymore.  Everyones healing time is different, but major injuries take longer to heal.  This is going to be a long process, and thats only if you do not have any set backs.  It is always possible to re-injure it causing a set back that can make you have to start all over again.  Just be very careful, follow your doctors instructions and hopefully the time will fly for you and you will be back to your regular walking in no time.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Please take care of yourself.

I think every case is different.I had tib/fib fractures &initially I had an IM nail w/screws put in my tibia and was allowed to touch weight bear right away. Then after about 5 or 6 weeks I was able to total weght bear & a month after that I was told that my fibula hadn't healed and needed a bone graft. So while each case is different I also think surgeons treat things different. My Dr.&PT was of the mind set that by putting a little pressure on the leg stimulates bone growth my surgeon also believe that NSAIDs hinder bone healing. Are you taking calcium,vit.D3,and vit.C? I know the frustration level-I only left the house for appts. for 3 months- I am 18 months post accident and while I can walk,(well gimp ha) I still am not anywhere close to being normal-I am having hardware removed in Aug.-The frustration level does get better-you will still have moments but it will get better. Hopefully after your nxt appt. you will be on you way.Go to all the PT you can and really work on your ROM this is HUGE!  Wish I could tell you exactly what you wanted to know,but...    Take Care
