my back pain hasn't gone away for a month!

well i am a competitive gymnast and i recently came back from vacation and when i did, my lower right back began to hurt whenever i would bend over, run, twist or sometimes even walk. so i went to my chiropractor and she thinks that i sprained it, so i laid off for a week and i thought it was all better so i went back to the gym and swung on the the gymnastics bar and all my pain came back! It also felt like my lower part of my back was seperating from my upper back. I keep going back to my chiroprator, and she just adjusts me and sometimes i get accupunture done on it. BUT THE PAIN WILL NOT GO AWAY! is this just because i haven't given it enough time (a month) or is it something more serious??

Hello!

Good now that you are diagnosed go for proper treatment after discussing with your Orthopedician.
Suggest to him that you do not want a steroid shot soon and would try non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and exercises and methods to limit the spine problem.

Take care

Hello!

As i mentioned earlier keep surgery as the last option as at your age therapy will give you very good results.
You are young and recovery would be good and you should follow all instructions of conservative treatment near the Orthopedician.
Every case is different so finally the course of treatment will determine what is best for you.

I had spondy and had it give up gymnastics.  It is a tough injury to have, but it will get better with the right amount of physical therapy and inactivity.  It took about 6 months for me to heal.  I would not suggest surgery, as my brother had some for his back, and is still in pain 5 years later.

Hello!

It is always good not to exert her at this stage so stopping gym is a good idea. Give her anti inflammatory drugs to relieve pain.

Discuss all options and try conservative treatment initially as it is Grade 1 and take surgery as the last option.

Hi,

My 15 yr old daughter was a gymnast for many years.  A couple of years ago, she began to have some back pain and would skip gym for a while and then she would feel better, then she would go back to gym and it would get really bad for a while.  We went to the doctor a few times and basically they said warm up more.  Stop gym and take antinflammatories.  They would not order an x-ray and then finally I convinced them to send her to a consultant ortho. surgeon.  She had an mri and it showed a grade one spondylolisthesis.  We are seeking more opinions and she will have a bone scan next month and we will go on from there.
Please stop gym and make sure you get that x-ray or mri.  You are taking the risk of making it worse.
Let me know how you get on.

Hello!
You need to diagnose it properly now. Go for an X-ray and an MRI and professional orthopedic examination.
If required you need proper rest and followed by physical therapy. After the diagnosis you will be suggested when you can come for full training.
Take care!
