nocturnal leg cramps(charlie horse)

I  often wake up with intense leg cramps.My leg muscles will seize up (while I scream profanities!)The pain stops and starts several times.Why?

I have had those... when I was younger, and when I played amputee soccer (on one leg).  

Cause - Not enough water in your system, perhaps not enough potasium (such as banana). My father prescribed quinine (sp).  Check with pharmisist or Dr.

i have been having  these leg cramps for a long time. to the point they are leaving bruses on my legs. i have tried alot of different things. the more banans i eat the worse the pain gets. im not sure what else to try the doctor can't figure out what it is and what is cause it. any sugestins
