piercing pain in my knee and muscle cramps

since month I am having muscle spasm in waves from my groin (hip) down to my knee. Kneeling causes a sharp pain in my knee like I hit a nail. I am 66 years old and had already2  hip surgerys (Osteotomy). Sitting down for a few minutes is giving relieve for a few minutes. The pain is almost unbearable now . No pain medication will help. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you.

Hello!

You have to rule out sciatica pain which starts from your groin and is referred down the inner side of your thigh and knee and legs.

Sciatica pain occurs due to lower lumbar spine complications.

You can also have this pain due to your past hip problems.

You should consider RICE, pain medications, activity modification by limiting movements and weight bearing and by following proper ergonomics in your daily living.

If pain continues visit an orthopedician for a proper examination, for some scans and to come to a proper diagnosis.

Take care!
