post broken hip pain

I broke my upper femur several years ago and had to have a rod and screws put in the region near the hip.  It has been moderately painful over the years but recently become so bad on some days i have to use a cane to get around, im 59yrs old and never smoked and do alot of exercise including yoga.  Should i get the rod and pin removed or just learn to live with the bad days?

Did you have any success with diagnosing the source of  your pain?  I broke my femur 2 years ago and I am experiencing the same problem.  They seem to just want to medicate me with the latest pain/nerve meds and not look for a cause.  I am curious to your success with solving your pain issue.

Hi Mike,
How are you feeling? It is nice to see a patient so motivated to help himself.
Why you want to think about removal of rods and pins right away. I think you should be planning a step wise approach for your current concern.
Firstly you need to see an orthopaedician and evaluate the current problem as whether it is arising from joint or if any nerve compromise is present.
Secondly an imaging study is must to see for soft tissue pathology and placement of rods and pins and also to look for any displacements.
Thirdly to decide after above mentioned approach for further intervention as to whether really rod removal is needed or not.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
