yeah i guess im lucky i knew that i broke the scaphoid. it really stinks because all i love to do is play guitar and now i cant. ive been in a cast for seven weeks i thought it would be off at six weeks but i guess now i have to wait till 8 weeks. but i feel for you because this bone is a slow healer and i assume you need surgery and that'll take even longer to heal. they told me i was lucky and didnt need surgery i just cant wait to pick up my strat and start shredding away on that thing it's my favorite guitar ever. i hope the cast comes off next week i really do.

I too am faced with inevitable four corner fusion or proximal row carpectomy.  I broke my schaphoid 40 years ago and never knew it.  it's been painful for 30 years, and now necrotic and collapsed it is time.

I'm very glad to see this string as I have searched the internet for years for information and support with this problem.  I am an avid surfer, gardner, and guitar player and treasure the use of my hands.

I want to talk to others who have been through this and can provide support and advice on procedures, doctors, etc. (I had my hip replace 2 years ago and there were numeroous web-based bulletin boards with tons of information and support.)  I have not found that for SNAC wrist problems.

Any suggestions?  If there is no group we should create one....there are others out there who need it too.

I tore all the ligaments in my hand. and after having the cast on for 12/13 weeks and after physical therapy one of the repairs failed and had to have another surgery,(intercarpal fusion) then had the cast on for another 8 weeks. Still wear a brace once in awhile because am still having problems with my wrist.
I know what you mean about hating the cast. It makes it difficult to do alot of things and also it gets stinky after awhile...lol When you get it off be prepared for lots of dead skin under there and very smelly. The best thing to get rid of the smell and to get rid of the dead skin is a gauze with rubbing alcohol. Good luck to you.

If you think 6 weeks in a cast is bad. Last year I spent a total of about 20 weeks in a cast. Then a wrist brace for 6 weeks.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

It is "Scaphoid" bone and it is one of the 8 carpal bones in your hand. I can understand your predicament; it is for your good that your orthopedician has put a cast for immobilization and fracture healing.
Hope for the best and as your healing was progressing properly at your 4 week visit the chances of you coming out of the "dumb cast" are more. An X-ray would have been more confirmatory and helpful to show signs of healing.

Take care!
