stenosis

I have been diagnosed with stenosis by an orthopedic surgeron.  I was told that stenosis was caused by arhritis.  I was given pain medication and inflammation medication. Going to report back in four weeks to see if I have improved.  I feel that the medication will cover up the pain and the inflammation will get better because of the medication or if it does not, the doctor advised that only one option left and that was the epidural shot.  I do not want to have that shot of steroids.  I feel that this is just another cover up and the stenosis will continue to get worse.

Should I be going to a rheumotoidologist instead of an orthpedic surgeon?   What is the advantage or disadvantage of going to either or these two specialist?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? In some cases arthritis, a degenerative condition can indeed cause spinal stenosis. There may be no symptoms of spinal stenosis, or symptoms may appear slowly and get worse over time. Medications may help provide relief. If your symptoms persist, you may also benefit from referral to other specialists such as rheumatologists to treat your arthritis.
Alternative treatments like include chiropractic treatment and acupuncture may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
