Osteoporosis and bone regeneration

Will my bones regenerate with osteoporosis? Took Fosamas and a generic brand about six years ago -- drug did not help improve my bone mass.  Take calcium pills -- this does not help either.  How can I increase my bone strength and density with out taking drugs?

Hi there!

Well, there are several factors that affect bone mass, dietary intake and hormonal status being the top in the list. If medications and dietary supplements have not been helpful, the defect could lie at the receptor level or with mineral excretion process at the kidney level. I would suggest considering a detailed evaluation by an internist at this time. After a specific cause is identified, a management plan can be chalked out accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
