Hi,
just wondering when you had your take down did they do everything @ one time? Connect you, take care of wound from ostomy...you here so many stories & I am very confused...can you help me out.
most people I see after surgery have all done at once...there is a small site where your stoma was at that is sutured and the bowel is reconnected. most are good to go home in a few days
when I had mine done, it was a 2 part procedure. the first they opened my abdomin (abdomen) all the way to make a j-pouch. then 10 weeks later they connected my stoma to my j-pouch. that was a tiny incision
surgery to remove about 7 inches of colon. Released from hospital with ostomy with assurance of reversal in about three months. Thinking "ok, ill get my brain around this and charge on". Named my stoma "Steve". Steve and I were back to work in mid september at a fairly physical job. Absolutely no problems. I was a little greatful to Steve and I would reach down just give him a little rub sometimes. wasnt his fault after all. Worked normally for about two months and change.
NOVEMBER 2008-REVERSAL - The enima the night before was no picnic for Steve and I. WE did not get a lot of sleep as you can imagine. Steve was a trooper though and off to the hospital we went.
8 oclock surgery went fine and was on wonderful drugs at about 11am. Slept the first day and most of the second. Tubes and drains removed second night. So by now the only thing im tethered to is the morphin hose(YUM!) Time to get up and walk the halls. Its just a little bit uncomfortable but what a small sacrifice. Out of the hospital in four days on my own power(with my terrific wife) and on the couch for about two weeks. percoset by mouth and plenty of not much else. I ate normally and crapped about as well as you could expect. The crapping then decided it was going to start acting normal which allowed me to be back at work within three to four weeks after reversal. Two months now and I have had one really bad night where the toilet was my best freind, however I should tell you that a weekend of tanqurey and tonics, budweiser, and bar food was probrably the culprit. My scars dont bother me as I am 43 years old and the wife aint going anywhere, so you could say that my vainity is gone. I really feel great and hope these paragraphs help. If this has taught me anything its taught me to slow the hell down!
