Rectal/Vaginal fistula resulted in colostomy

I recently had a lower rection of my colon due to colon cancer. The surgery was a sucess and I was being released after ten days until a young intern gave me a suppoistory resulting in a rectal/vaginal fistula which required an emergency surgery because of bowel coming through the vagina. I had a colostomy as a result of the fistula. I have had several infections in my vagina for the past few weeks which have caused problems such as severe diarrhea and severe to moderate cramping in my abdomen. I saw the specialist this week and they suggested a cream with estogen to strengthen the skin around the fistula and sugery to correct the fistula in about 6-8 weeks. Is this normal to have sugery this soon, it has been 7 weeks post -op after my last surgery. I am still recovering from last surgery in July, I had three major surgeries in a three week time. I am weak still, numerous infections and the severe diarrhea. I want the problem resolved is surgery my only option at this point to stop all the vaginal infections and also I am have severe discharge from the vagina infections. Will the estrogen cream work , will the tissue be strong enough. I am worried the surgery will have to be repeated, as I have read several other patients with the same problem have to go through several surgeries and sometimes the problem is never resolved. I know every case is different but another surgery just scares me at this point.
