left side pain after colectomy

34 male, 257lbs, 5' 10" , i had my sigmoid colon removed 3 weeks ago.  due to diverticulitus.  also had a perferated colon.  just 2 days ago i started to experience pain on my left side mainly in my back just below or in the bottom of the rib cage.  i've never had a kidney infection, but they way i describe it my wife says it sounds like it.  but i don't have frequent urination, burning, or smell.  the pain is dull and intensity changes, but is always there when standing and in some sitting positions.  when i lay down i feel a relief and if i get in a hot tub and lay down there is no pain until i stand back up.  any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

first thing..always..is check with ur dr..go in and let him know so he can check it out...also many will have pain after surgery..that is a major surgery u had...but if it persists//and expecially if u have fever..u need to be checked

How was the surgery? Did you have to get opened up for it? My husband may need this and we want to talk to as many people as we can about this.
