pressure wound around stoma

pressure wound around stoma

I have a pressure wound around my stoma from wearing a convex wafer.  Now they have put me in a flat wafer and I am unable to get a good seal.  The skin in one area around the stoma has torn.  I am covering it with something that my ostomy nurse gave me, but it looks a bit infected.  Is there anything I can put on it to help it heal?

I surely understand your problem mamag, because we were glad when we found a good convex pouch. Now I can wear one for 4 days without it coming off. I am in a wheelchair, and now I can bend forward too. I will be watching for your symptoms, but so far my skin is good. We like the Convatec convex pouch best, and we found a difference in adhesives between brands.

were you wearing an ostomy belt?  Odd that a convex wafer would cause a pressure ulcer is why I ask as perhaps the belt was too tight.  Most often it is yeast people get around a stoma verses a pressure ulcer.  Nystatin powder using a crusting technique before applying your wafer is great for yeast.  Simply blot the powder with a damp cloth and let it dry before applying your wafer.  If it is a true open, weeping wound, then your wafer wont adhere due to the drainage and duoderm can help that
good luck to u
