10 month old with ovarian cysts

My ten month old went in for u/s on her kidneys, ( she has OFD1) and while doing the u/s they found a 8mm left ovarian cyst.  Can this turn into a mass? And if so, can that turn into cancer?  I have never heard of a baby having a cyst on her ovaries.  Just looking for answers.  Thanks,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

I have to confess, I was not familiar with OFD1 and looked it up.
here is a good link for other people who want to learn about it. I suspect that you probably know more about it than most doctors as you try to understand what your baby is going through or may go through in the future.

I did not see any mention of an association with ovarian cysts or tumors. The OFD1 mutation is on the X chromosome.   There have definitely been links with abnormal ovarian function and X chromosome mutations although the best known one: Turner's syndrome - there is a missing X chromosome and no ovarian function.

Some ovarian cysts seen in infancy are functional cysts and are due to  stimulation from the mother's hormones when the infant was in utero.

There are some rare tumors of the ovary in infancy.

I imagine that her doctor has suggested a repeat ultrasound in 3 months to check again.
best wishes
