18cm Grade 1 tumor removed w/ ovary, what next?

I am a married 37-year-old woman without children.  Three weeks ago, I underwent a laparotomy to remove an 18cm tumor from my left ovary.  The surgeon also removed my appendix, left ovary, and left fallopian tube.  My post-surgical pathology report revealed a well-differentiated mixed endometrioid and mullerian mucinous carcinoma.  My gynecologic oncologist described the tumor as Grade 1.  Pelvic washings, left gutter, left pelvic tissue, posterior cul-de-sac, anterior cul-de-sac, left round ligament, right pelvic tissue, omentum, and appendix all tested negative for malignancy.

My oncologist believes I can wait a few years to have a hysterectomy (until we've had a chance to have a child).  She has recommended a follow-up laproscopy (in one month) to remove my left abodmonal lymph nodes for biopsy.

I am struggling with two questions:  (1) Is the follow-up surgery necessary now or can I wait until the eventual hysterectomy (within about three years) to have my lymph nodes removed?  (2) How much of a risk am I taking in delaying the hysterectomy?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Hi There
Your risk of recurrence will depend on the stage of your cancer. Staging information comes form surgery which include a careful evaluation of the abdomen, lymph node biopsies, the removal of your omentum. I strongly encourage you to consider your doctor's recommendation of the follow up laparoscopy
best wishes to you
