1st Line Failed

by Derek S, Aug 20, 2004 12:00AM
Sir,

As you know I have posted a few questions with regard to my wifes OVCa stage3c (32 years old).

Yesterday we were informed that 1st line chemo has failed and a mass has formed in the pelvic region roughly where the first tumour was removed.  The new tumour is 2.3x3.1cm.

The doctors have said there is not much that can be done but they can try 2nd line chemo with a very small chance.

She has had topotecan/carbo x4 and taxol/carbo x 2 so far.

What drug combination would you recommend for this.

They do not hold out much hope for 2nd line since the 1st line has failed and the tumour has got bigger during the chemo.

She doesnt want to give up but the doctor said not many months left for her if the 2nd line doesnt work.

Secondly they diagnosed at local hospital encaphilitis 2 weeks ago and treated her with anti viral drugs as she had stroke like symptoms numbness of her arm speech problems and side of her face numb and migraines.

The symptoms are now easing and her speech is returning and arm is returning to normal and face - The oncologist says it was a misdiagnosis and that the symptoms were probably caused by proteins released by the tumour which affected her brain - can you shed anymore light on this and explain it a bit more?

I would also recommend your opinion on which trials or drugs would be most effective.

Many Thanks

Derek
