2 questions, one overy taking over and emotions

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if you gals noticed an increase in emotional instability, especially at ovulation and pms time when you had your varoius ovary troubles. Hormones are bad for me anyway but I wonder if this mass may be giving my hormones a bigger whack than usual. I don't know if I ovulated from that side...sometimes I can feel it, not this month so far.

My other question was for those of you who lost one ovary. Dr said the other would take over but I was wondering how the transition was. I want to be prepared if I am going to have a rough couple of months or a longer.

I am 47 but have not had any menopuseal symptoms yet so this will most likely throw me for a loop. I just feel like I'll do better if I knod of know what to expect. I am also having a hysteroscopy, D&C and balloon ablation at the same time.

Thanks, my new friends!    Cindi

I know, sometimes we get down about it, but you are right, recovery is in site.  I know how it is, you just want to feel good again, and you will!  Sending you a big hug ((((()))))
Take care!

Tascha, That is what my doc told me, too, but I wondered if it took a few months to kick in properly. I suppose it can't be any worse than I've been going through and the end will be in sight so I am going to think positively about it!  Cindi

You have your other ovary, right?  Don't worry, it will take over and function just fine..  What was left of my remaining ovary was too little to take over, plus my age (45) was another factor.  You should be fine!!! :-)

Prior to my surgery in 2004, I was an emotional basket case.  Immediately after my surgery, I began healing, both physically and emotionally.  Also, I lost the one ovary, and my next cycle began about one week early, but I have had relatively normal menstrual cycles since then (normal for my stage of perimenopause.)   As for other effects, I cannot say; the only times in my life that I had PMS or other monthly menstrual problems (pain, emotions, etc.) was when I was married, and we just won't even get into that topic!!!!

Hi CindiSue - Boy do I ever remember the emotional rollercoaster I was on when I would PMS. I was 46 when I was diagnosed with ovca, but always had a problem with ovarian cysts.

My hormones were always messed up. It seems that about a year prior to my diagnosis, my PMS was so bad that I would become severly depressed about a week or so before I'd start my period. I'd always have to tell myself "ok just a few more days and everything will be alright". It was strange - when I would start my period, it was almost as if I had this euphoric feeling and life was good again.

I agree with Gatsby. The months that I would have cysts, especially the ones that ruptured, my hormones would really be out of whack.

Absolutely!  Any disturbance with your ovaries can cause emotions to get a little wacky!!  I am 45 and have gone through surgical menopause.  My dr. left 10% of my left ovary, but it was not enought to "kick in".  But as the saying goes, this too shall pass!  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
