I too would insist on the Oncologist to do the surgery.
My mom has OvCa (2 years since diagnosis and doing well, thank goodness!) Her surgery was done by a gynecological oncologist, even though both her gyn and onc were "80% sure this isn't cancer." Since then we have both read that your odds of survival go up GREATLY if an ONC does the initial surgery. I wish I could remember where we read that, but I believe the improvement in odds was in the range of 30%.
I am still in the early evaluation stages with a 5 cm mass. If it doesn't resolve on its own I plan to have an Onc do the surgery no matter how sure everyone is that it's benign!
Good luck to you.
This is why you are such a vital member of The Battalion. I love the way you just tell it like it is, holding nothing back. You keep on doing what you are doing and we will keep listening!

I will respectfully disagree with some of the cysters here....I strongly recommend having your surgery done by a gyn/oncologist. YOU HAVE BUT ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!
You might just trust and love your gyn to death and the onc/surgeon might be a real *******.......tough! The onc/surgeon was trained in this arena, even had extra years of training....has de-bulking down to an art....has an eye trained to recognize potential problems.....
If it makes you feel better, have your gyno assist....but you absolutely need to have a gyno/onc standing over you during your surgery.
As far as I am concerned, it is okay if I make you angry....but it's great if I can get you to reconsider your options. It does influence your journey and prognosis.
Peace ladies.

Hi Gloria, I just seen your other post to me sorry. I am having laproscopic (laparotomy If needed)to remove a left adnexal mass they believe is adhesions and a thick walled cystic mass. I would be honored to be your surgery cyster but they have moved my surgery to the 5th. But you will be in my thoughts and prayers and I will try to get on here asap after my surgery to let you know how it goes since it will be right before yours.
I will still consider you my surgery cyster as it is only 5 days apart. Let's hope we both join the 99 percent club post op!
Peace to you my surgery cyster and God Bless!!!
HUGS,
Darlyn
Mine did my surgery, however he said he will call in a gyn/onc for the second if needed (new cyst 8 weeks post op).

My Gyn is also scheduled to do my surgery - May 15th.
Thank you all for your posts! My surgery is scheduled for May 10th...Good luck to you all!!!
My gyn is also doing my surgery on Monday. She is going to have a general surgeon in with her, because I had some problems with my last surgery. Keep us posted. Kasie
Thanks for your post! When is your surgery?
My gyne is doing my surgery - total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy. He would just refer me to an oncologist if something is found (which it won't be!).
