2nd Recurrence

by Mom7, Apr 18, 2004 12:00AM
My mother has had a second recurrence of a granulosa tumor. She does not have access to a computer, so I'm looking for info and suggestions for her. She is having surgery on 4/22 for removal of a tumor measuring about 3 cm. What kind of questions do I ask the gyn/onc? The first tumor was about 2 years ago and measured over 50 cm. He told her that it may come back in about 20 years, so this came as a shock. She is having an extreme amount of pain. He removed the overies and appendix 2 years ago and resectioned 12 inches of intestine. What could be causing this pain ? What is involved in "washing" and "staging" ? I realize these are a lot of questions but I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Any information and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

                  Thanks,

Once dx w/cancer, my wife underwent chem. 3 yrs. passed before a recurrence. Now another surgery and more chemo. Should CT scans have been done during the 3 yrs between dx?
Also, is swelling of the abdomen a sign of spreading of the cancer?
