2nd opinion results........surgery scheduled

Hi, Most of you will remember I had my left ovary/tube removed back on 6/13 &it came back low malignant potential w/ positive abdomial (abdominal) washings. Went for a 2nd opinion ran more test, cat scan, bloodwork, ultrasound, bone scan. The results from the tests weren't all that bad u/s came back pretty good, bone scan good, CA-125 was 67 prior to surgery dropped down to 18.6 BUT on the cat scan it showed a lesion 1x6cm by 2x3cm, on the left side, same area where surgery was done. SO this dr suggest we go in and remove the uterus, right ovary and fatty lining on intestines to be on the safe side. I am hoping he can do the hysterecomy lapascopically (sp) I guess in other words being non-invasive.   To say the least I am quite scared ( shouldnt be this will be #3 surgery this year) Besides having the gas pains what else is good advice to be prepared for this surgery and of course what do i expect afterwards ??

thank you all
Joan

Regarding the gas pains, I had an anesthesiologist tell me that Ibuprofin whill help immensely with that, even when morphine won't, because it will help the muscle spasms from the gas. I believe you can take ibuprofin and other pain meds that don't contain it together. Keep that in mind.

Hi there!  Has your dr. suggested removing the uterus vaginally?  The recovery time is easier...even though it is the same length.  You will not have the outside cut.  If he can do it vaginally with laproscopic help, that is good too.  Your incisions will be smaller and the recovery time not too bad either.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

Hello, Joan....dian here....this doctor of yours...is he/she a gyn/oncologist?  If not you have the wrong person doing your surgery......your surgeon needs to get it right this time and the surgeon who is most qualified is a gyn/oncologist.....please request a consult with a gyn/oncologist and that he/she do the surgery or at the very least assist in the procedure.
Peace.

Hi Diane,   Yes this dr is gyno/oncologist. Works out of Mount Sinai hospital in NY and is alot more informative that my previous gyno/onco that had enough nerve to think that i was that darn stupid when I asked him the question of what the side effects of estrogen where and he stated ' that there were none '
I certainly have done my homework as per dr.

Hi Diana,
So when do you find out if you can get this surgery done via lap versus open?  If they have to go laparotomy, try not to worry, I have had three and managed, the second when my youngest was only 2.  That's the tough part with either method, the lifting restrictions!  With a toddler it is just second mature to pick them up!  But guess you already know that given two surgeries already this year and a three year old!  How is she?  MV
