3rd Ultrasound - how reliable?

3rd Ultrasound - how reliable?

Had 1st ultrasound in June at GYN's office - 1 cyst on left ovary 4 cm; 2 on right 3 cm each - both had debris and were septated (complex).  Decided to wait 6 weeks for another U/S - this time left cyst 2 cm - shrinking - 3 cysts on right - 2 same size and 1 "looked like it burst".  Good news both now appeared simple with no debris.  GYN felt it was safe to wait 2 months for follow up U/S and if still there remove right ovary.

Question - how reliable/accurate are the ultrasounds?  My apptmt is Tuesday and I'm freaking a little.  I'm 45; in pain mainly mid cycle and week before period.  Also, I'm afraid she won't give me a referral to GYN/ONC - I called the nearest one's office and they only take referral from dr.

Thanks - bless you all!

They are pretty reliable and it's entirely possible you have functional cysts that are resolving. Your gyno is following a good track in my opinion.

Sounds like you are in good hands and your dr. is keeping an eye on things.  Functional cysts can be a pain (pun intended!) but at least they do go away on their own and do not need surgery!  Hopefully you can get some pain relief when they do rupture.  Will you be put on bcp?  Sometimes this keeps your body from making the cyst.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the comments - it's a big comfort to talk to those who are going through the same thing.

I had U/S today and 3 cysts are still on the right ovary and 2 are complex - probably the same all along.  Apparently the view can change with bowels, time of month.

The U/S tech said she has 30 years of experience and it doesn't look like cancer to her - that cancer would grow in 2 months.  She said probably hemorrhagic.

So it looks like surgery - I have a question - do any of you regret having surgery and wished you had waited for cysts to resolve on their own?  Thanks
